Nepalese agricultural economy is being dominated by remittance in recent years.
When the productive age Nepalese are going foreign countries for education and
employment, chepangs have not stayed in exception. When I asked the villagers I
found that two Chepangs have gone in Malaysia and one in India.
Moving for overseas job is gearing up in Hamrung. In 2007, Kanchha Chepang went
to Malaysia and lived there for three years now he is with his family in the village.
One of my respondents, who is the president of local cooperative limited of the
village said that Chepangs’ young are learning to go abroad for work. Many young
Chepangs are willing to go outside for job. The cooperative was established in 2010
with the objective to facilitating farmers especially in the vegetable production. By
the means of vegetable farming and their work opportunities on overseas labor shows
that Chepangs now are connected with national as well as global labor market.
